Over 8 Million Kazakhstanis to Access 5G Communications Next Year
Currently, over 2 million individuals across 20 cities in the country are already benefitting from 5G services.
In a recent announcement at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov revealed plans to extend 5G communications to more than 8 million people in Kazakhstan by the following year. Currently, over 2 million individuals across 20 cities in the country are already benefitting from 5G services.
Highlighting Kazakhstan’s commitment to becoming a prominent player in the digital realm, Smailov mentioned the ongoing launch of 5G communications and the nation’s aspiration to play a pivotal role in the new Silk Road. He shared plans for an optical route beneath the Caspian Sea, collaborating with neighboring countries, and exploring options to extend optics to the Persian Gulf nations.
The Prime Minister also discussed the national initiative “Affordable Internet,” implemented last year, aiming to achieve 100% internet penetration by 2027. Efforts are underway to provide quality communication services to rural areas, including plans to equip 2,000 remote rural schools with high-speed internet by the end of this year.
As of December 2023, telecom operators had already installed 677 5G base stations in Kazakhstan, indicating the nation’s strides in advancing its digital infrastructure.
