Over 4,000 Government Positions Remain Vacant in Tajikistan
Tajikistan is facing a significant staffing shortage in its public sector.

According to Ikrom Idriszoda, Director of the Civil Service Agency under the President of Tajikistan, 4,102 government positions across various institutions remain unfilled as of July 1, 2025.
The problem is particularly acute in rural areas, where only 81.9% of the 22,711 official positions in local governments and self-governing bodies are staffed — meaning over 4,000 roles remain vacant.
The agency head also highlighted gender imbalance in civil service: women make up only 25.1% of the total number of employees (4,682 women), and just 19% hold leadership positions (1,159 women in managerial roles).
To address these challenges, the agency is implementing measures to make public service more appealing, focusing on recruiting young professionals and improving gender equality in government institutions.
