Over 140,000 Women Become Mothers Each Year in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan celebrates Mother’s Day on the third Sunday of May — a national holiday established by presidential decree in 2012, recognizing the vital role of mothers in family and society.

The day is marked by celebrations in kindergartens and schools, contests, community events, and special TV and radio programming dedicated to mothers.
As of January 1, 2025, Kyrgyzstan is home to 3.679 million women, accounting for 50.5% of the population. Of these, 43% live in urban areas and 57% in rural regions.
In 2024, more than 140,000 women became mothers. The average age at childbirth is 28.3 years, and women in Kyrgyzstan give birth to an average of three children — sustaining the country’s natural population growth. That same year, 1,253 twins and 21 triplets were born.
Experts note that only 44% of women space births more than three years apart. About 33% give birth with less than a two-year gap, increasing the risk of anemia and pregnancy complications.
