The Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration revealed that approximately 13,987 individuals in Kyrgyzstan are currently employed as personal assistants. These dedicated individuals play a crucial role in offering support and services to a total of 14,287 adults and children with disabilities across the republic.
Under the existing legislation, personal assistants can include parents, legal representatives (such as adoptive parents, trustees, and guardians), close relatives (like grandparents, full and half-siblings, and adoptive parents), or other individuals under the age of 65 without disabilities or a criminal record related to offenses against children. It is noteworthy that these personal assistants undergo specialized training, the expenses of which are covered by the national budget.
The law also extends the provision of personal assistants to children with disabilities residing outside of boarding schools, ensuring that they too have access to the invaluable support they require. This initiative emphasizes the government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing assistance to those in need throughout the country.
