One of the Largest Greenhouse Complexes Launched in Shymkent

A major agricultural project has officially begun operations in Shymkent, where a high-capacity greenhouse complex capable of producing 155,000 tonnes of tomatoes annually has been launched, BasAgro.kz reports.

The first construction phase, covering 208 hectares, has already yielded its initial tomato harvest. The full project, valued at USD 650 million, began in the summer of 2024 and spans a total planned area of 650 hectares. By the end of this year, an additional 40-hectare section is expected to come online, boosting domestic supplies of fresh vegetables.

Once the first phase becomes fully operational, around 2,000 jobs will be created, with total employment expected to reach 5,000 upon completion of the entire complex.

A key element of the initiative is the establishment of a specialized agro-academic center equipped with a modern, internationally certified laboratory. The center will focus on training skilled personnel for the agricultural sector.

Kazakhstan currently operates greenhouse facilities covering 1,300 hectares, producing around 200,000 tonnes of vegetables annually. The launch of the ALSERA KZ complex is set to significantly increase the country’s greenhouse output, strengthening food security and reducing off-season import dependence.

The opening ceremony gathered high-level participants, including Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov, Consul General of Türkiye in Turkistan Levent Gürgen, and the Chairman of Türkiye’s Alarko Holding, İzzet Garih.

Minister Saparov emphasized that Türkiye remains a key partner for Kazakhstan in agriculture, with 14 joint projects worth a total of USD 1.1 billion currently being implemented in the country.
