On October 6, Kazakhstanis make an important decision about the construction of a nuclear power plant

Today, a national referendum is taking place in Kazakhstan, where citizens will decide whether to proceed with building a nuclear power plant. The Central Referendum Commission has provided details on how the voting process is organized.

The ballot includes only one question: “Do you support the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan?” In his address to the nation on September 1, 2023, titled “The Economic Path of a Just Kazakhstan,” President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the importance of holding a referendum to resolve this issue.

For the past year, the topic of constructing a nuclear power plant has been widely debated in society. On October 6, 2024, following a decree by the President, the referendum is being held. The organization and oversight of the referendum are being managed by the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan, along with territorial and district commissions.
