Novak Djokovic ties Margaret Court’s Grand Slam record with US Open win

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic defeated Russian Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final on Sunday to win his 24th Grand Slam singles title, tying Margaret Court’s all-time record, Turanews.kz reports.

Djokovic, 36, won the match 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. He also won the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon this year, becoming the first man to win all four Grand Slams in a single year since 2016.

Djokovic is now one Grand Slam title behind Rafael Nadal, who has 22. Nadal is not playing in the US Open due to injury.

“It’s an incredible feeling,” Djokovic said after the match. “To be in the same sentence as Margaret Court is incredible. She’s an icon of our sport.”

Djokovic’s victory was his third US Open title. He also won in 2011 and 2015.

Djokovic’s next Grand Slam opportunity will come at the Australian Open in January. He will be the defending champion and will be looking to win his third consecutive title in Melbourne.
