On March 4, 2024, the Turkish Disaster Management Authority confirmed the occurrence of the earthquake in the province of Canakkale. The seismic event, which took place at 21:38 local time, had its epicenter located in the Yenice region of Canakkale province at a depth of 10.44 kilometers.
The city of Canakkale, situated at the entrance to Canakkale Bay on the Asia Minor Peninsula along the coast of the Dardanelles Strait, experienced the most intense tremors. The earthquake’s effects rippled through neighboring provinces including Istanbul, Manisa, and Bursa.
Despite the substantial seismic activity, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya assured the public of the situation’s stability. Fortunately, no injuries were reported due to the tremors. Authorities promptly initiated inspections of buildings and structures to assess any potential damage.
“The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, along with other relevant agencies, commenced building inspections post-earthquake. Presently, there are no adverse consequences. The situation remains under control,” affirmed the head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs.
