New Surveillance System in Astana to Detect Drivers Using Mobile Phones
A newly installed surveillance camera system in Astana will automatically detect drivers using mobile phones while driving and issue fines accordingly.

According to Qazaqstan.tv, the smart system will also identify drivers who fail to wear seat belts or yield to pedestrians.
Powered by artificial intelligence, the system is capable of detecting 15 different traffic violations automatically. By the end of the year, 22,000 cameras across the city will be integrated into this system.
The project is being implemented with an investment of 53 billion tenge from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“Existing surveillance infrastructure will not be removed. Instead, it will be modernized in phases and enhanced with new technologies. The new system will be able to detect 15 types of traffic violations and will feature 35 types of video analytics, including mobile phone use and failure to wear seat belts,” said Yerasyl Kairat, Chief Specialist of the Video Surveillance and Infrastructure Development Department.
