New District Planned for Capital of Kazakhstan
The Astana city administration has unveiled plans to divide the Almaty region into two distinct parts.

The decision comes amidst population growth and the rapid development of urban infrastructure in the area, aimed at enhancing administrative-territorial management efficiency.
Previously, Chairman of Astana’s city council, Kanalimov E.E., proposed the establishment of a sixth district within the city.
As per the proposal, the existing Almaty district will be divided into two:
- The northern part, retaining its historical name, Almaty district, covering an area of 8,518 hectares.
- The southern part, a newly established administrative district with a new name, encompassing a total area of 6,953 hectares, referred to as the projected area.
The draft plan is available for public discussion on the portal of open legal acts.
