New “Burkitshi” Mural Unveiled for the World Nomad Games in Astana

A new mural titled "Burkitshi" has been unveiled on Beibarys Sultan Street in Astana, commemorating the upcoming World Nomad Games.

The event will take place in the city from September 8 to 14, 2024, and will feature 97 sets of medals across 21 sports, according to the official website of the Astana Akimat.

Standing at 16 meters tall, the mural showcases a berkutchi, a traditional hunter releasing a golden eagle into the sky, symbolizing the start of the Games. The background features stunning nomadic landscapes, including mountains and yurts, representing the freedom and rich cultural heritage of nomadic life.

The World Nomad Games are international sports competitions focused on ethnic sports, highlighting the traditional games of Central Asia’s nomadic groups and celebrating their cultural legacy and spirit.

The event is expected to draw around 2,000 participants from 89 countries worldwide.
