
The majority—3,755 people—passed through the “Kairagach – Highway” checkpoint, while 659 travelers used the “Kyzyl-Bel – Highway” checkpoint. Additionally, 477 passengers traveled between the two countries by air.
The “Kairagach – Highway” checkpoint, located near the village of Kulundu in Kyrgyzstan’s Leilek district, operates as a bilateral crossing point exclusively for citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Meanwhile, the “Kyzyl-Bel – Highway” checkpoint in Batken district has international status, allowing crossings by citizens of third countries as well. Both checkpoints operate 24/7 for both passenger and cargo transportation.
Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan officially resolved their border disputes on February 21. On March 13, Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon signed a historic border agreement, leading to the reopening of two major border crossings that had been closed since May 2021. Additionally, air travel between the two countries resumed on March 14.
