Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu: First Boxer from Kyrgyzstan to Secure an Olympic Medal
Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu has made history by becoming the first boxer from Kyrgyzstan to win an Olympic medal. Competing in the Paris Olympic Games, he advanced to the semifinals in the boxing tournament in the 57 kg weight category, ensuring a spot on the podium.
In his quarterfinal bout, Munarbek faced Jamal Harvey from the USA, the 2021 world champion and 2023 Pan American Games champion. After three intense 3-minute rounds, the judges awarded Munarbek the victory by split decision, propelling him into the semifinals and securing a historic medal for Kyrgyzstan.
Munarbek’s opponent in the semifinals is yet to be determined. He will face the winner of the match between Shudai Harada of Japan and Javier Ibanez Diaz of Cuba. The semifinal bouts are scheduled to take place on August 8.
