Moscow Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Landmark Abay Kunanbayev Monument

On April 4, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Russia, Dauren Abayev, and officials from the Astana City Maslikhat gathered at Chistye Prudy to honor the 20th anniversary of the Abay Kunanbayev monument. Unveiled in 2006 by the presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia, this monument stands as a prestigious gift from Kazakhstan to the city of Moscow, symbolizing decades of cultural kinship and mutual intellectual respect.

Tabigat Zeinulkabden, Chairman of the Astana Maslikhat, noted that the statue serves as a bridge for cultural diplomacy, which has only strengthened over the past twenty years. Crafted by a collaborative team including sculptors Marat and Said Ainekov, the monument remains a focal point for the Kazakh diaspora and official visitors. Every August 10, the square resonates with Abay’s poetry and music, celebrating the timeless wisdom of the Great Steppe’s most renowned philosopher in the heart of the Russian capital.
