More than 1 Million Ethnic Kazakhs have returned to Kazakhstan

As of April 1, 2023, 4,575 ethnic Kazakhs returned to their historical homeland and received the status of kandas (Kandas are ethnic Kazakhs and members of their families of Kazakh nationality). Since 1991, totally 1 million 111 thousand ethnic Kazakhs have returned to the country, Turanews.kz reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to the Agency, more than half of the kandas (52.4%) who arrived in Kazakhstan since the beginning of this year are from Uzbekistan, 19.3% from China, 13% from Russia, 6.3% from Turkmenistan , 5.3% from Mongolia and 3.7% from other countries.

Ethnic Kazakhs who arrived mainly settled in Almaty (27.9%), Mangistau (13.9%), Turkestan (6.8%), and Zhambyl (5.0%) regions, as well as in the cities of Almaty (9%) , Astana (11%) and Shymkent (6.5%).

The working age population in the them consist 69.1%, those younger than working age are 22.3% and pensioners are 8.6%.

Among working-age relatives, 18.5% have higher education, 39.9% have secondary professional education, 36.7% have general secondary education, and 4.8% have no education.
