Monument to Poet Magtymguly Fragi Inaugurated in Ashgabat’s Cultural Park Complex
A momentous event unfolded in Ashgabat, as a monument commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi, a revered Turkmen poet, philosopher, and humanist, was unveiled. The monumental statue, towering 60 meters atop a 20-meter pedestal, stands as a testament to the poet's enduring legacy of greatness and spiritual wisdom.
The grand opening ceremony, led by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, marked the culmination of festivities held in the southern part of the capital. The occasion was graced by dignitaries including Secretary General of TURKSOY, Sultan Raev, and Ministers of Culture from Türkiye and Kazakhstan, among others.
The unveiling of Magtymguly Fragi’s monument was the centerpiece of a new cultural and park complex, housing 24 statues honoring literary luminaries from across the globe. Attendees were treated to a vibrant choreographic performance showcasing the rich tapestry of cultural diversity, followed by a tour of the complex featuring sculptures of renowned writers such as Shakespeare, Dostoevsky, and Tagore.
As a tribute to Turkmenistan’s literary giant, President Berdimuhamedov and dignitaries laid flowers at the monument’s base, paying homage to Magtymguly’s profound influence on Turkmen literature and culture.
The festivities reached a crescendo with a spectacular multimedia show, illuminating the night sky with a dazzling array of lights and drones depicting symbols of Turkmenistan and excerpts from Magtymguly’s works. The grand finale came in the form of a breathtaking fireworks display, painting the Ashgabat skyline in a kaleidoscope of colors for over 20 minutes.
The opening of the monument not only celebrates Magtymguly Fragi’s enduring legacy but also symbolizes Turkmenistan’s commitment to preserving its rich cultural heritage for generations to come.
