Mirziyoyev sworn in as Uzbekistan’s New President

Shavkat Mirziyoyev was sworn in as Uzbekistan’s new president today at a joint session of the parliament. The ceremony was attended by heads of ministries, senators, deputies, and the diplomatic corps, Turanews.kz reports.

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission reported that Mirziyoyev had won the presidential election with 87.05% of the vote. The president was then presented with a certificate and took an oath to serve the people and abide by the Constitution.

In his inaugural speech, Mirziyoyev vowed to continue the reforms that have been underway in Uzbekistan since the death of former President Islam Karimov. He also pledged to improve the country’s economy and to strengthen its relations with the international community.
