Minsk Tractor Plant to Launch Tractor Assembly Operations in Uzbekistan

Minsk Tractor Plant (MTZ) is set to establish a tractor assembly facility in Uzbekistan, marking a significant step in expanding its global presence.

The initiative, disclosed by the Belarusian Ministry of Industry and reported by Belta news agency, underscores the plant’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and bolstering agricultural machinery production in the region.

At the recent second forum of the regions of Uzbekistan and Belarus, MTZ, alongside local company Planeta Servis, inked agreements aimed at advancing assembly production of diesel generator sets and compressor stations within Uzbekistan. Moreover, licensing deals were sealed to kickstart assembly operations for Belarusian agricultural machinery, with future plans to localize tractor production within the country.

The move comes amidst a notable surge in imports of Belarusian tractors to Uzbekistan, which saw a 1.6-fold increase last year compared to 2022. Notably, President Alexander Lukashenko highlighted that half of Uzbekistan’s ten tractors are sourced from Belarus, underscoring the strong demand for Belarusian agricultural machinery in the region.

In parallel, discussions between local firm Krantas Group and Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) have been underway regarding potential collaboration in the production of specialized equipment within Uzbekistan. Both entities are poised to explore new contract opportunities for the year 2024, further cementing bilateral ties and fostering industrial cooperation in the republic.
