MICS Survey Launched in Kazakhstan to Assess Well-Being of Women and Children
Kazakhstan has begun its fourth international Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS), covering 24,000 households across the country.
This survey, developed by UNICEF, was previously conducted in Kazakhstan in 2006, 2010, and 2015, as reported by the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The primary aim of the MICS is to evaluate the health and well-being of women and children by gathering reliable data on key development indicators. The results will help monitor their well-being more effectively and guide appropriate interventions.
From September 2 to November 29, interviewers will visit cities and villages throughout Kazakhstan, asking questions about living conditions, health, sanitation, education, and other critical areas. The survey’s questionnaires have been approved by relevant government agencies.
Maksat Turlubayev, Head of the National Statistics Bureau, urged households to cooperate with interviewers, emphasizing the importance of the survey in collecting valuable data that will improve the living conditions and health of the population.
The survey includes questions for men and women on employment, education, marriage, and mental health, while women will be asked additional questions on childbirth and postnatal care. Children under five will be evaluated for development and discipline, and those aged 5-17 will be assessed on child labor and early skill development.
Participation in the survey is voluntary, and the data collected will be used solely for statistical purposes. Interviewers will be identifiable by their special uniforms and ID badges.
The MICS survey is supported by UNICEF, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Asian Development Bank. Since its inception in 1996, MICS has been conducted 355 times across 118 countries, with Kazakhstan participating in the current 7th round alongside 27 other nations.
