Mi-8 Helicopter from Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Goes Missing Over Lake Onega in Karelia

The incident occurred in the vicinity of the village of Derevyannoye, Prionezhsky district of the Republic of Karelia.

A Mi-8 helicopter belonging to the Ministry of Emergency Situations disappeared during a training flight over Lake Onega in Karelia, as reported by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations to TASS agency.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of the village of Derevyannoye, Prionezhsky district of the Republic of Karelia, where the helicopter lost communication. The Mi-8 helicopter is from the North-Western Aviation Rescue Center of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

There are three crew members on board the helicopter, and search and rescue operations have been initiated. A team of rescuers on hovercraft and snowmobiles is en route to the site, and an An-26 aircraft from the North-West Air Navigation Service, equipped with rescuers, has been placed on alert.

Notably, the helicopter’s emergency beacon did not activate, and no signals have been received, according to operational services. The situation is currently under investigation.
