Marathon Runner Sarsenbay Kotyrashov Embarks on Epic Walking Journey from Kazakhstan to China
Kazakhstan's renowned marathon runner and traveler, Sarsenbay Kotyrashov, is setting out on an ambitious 3,000-kilometer walking journey from Kazakhstan to China. The journey, which begins on August 2 from Ust-Kamenogorsk, is expected to last around three months as Kotyrashov walks an average of 40 kilometers per day.
A recent event in the capital of Kazakhstan, organized by the Republican public association “QazaqGeography” and the Directorate for the Preparation and Holding of the 5th World Nomad Games, saw Kotyrashov receiving support and best wishes for his journey. Valentina Aliyasova, Deputy Chairman of “QazaqGeography,” highlighted Kotyrashov’s role in promoting Central Asian culture and heritage. Madi Manatbek, Advisor to the Directorate for the Nomad Games, also extended his support.
Kotyrashov, known for his dedication to exploring and studying nomadic cultures, plans to use this trip to raise awareness about the 5th World Nomad Games, set to be held in Astana from September 8 to 13. He aims to showcase the rich cultural and historical heritage of nomadic peoples through his journey, sharing his experiences via social media and other platforms.
At 73, Kotyrashov continues to inspire with his active lifestyle and commitment to cultural promotion. His previous feats include walking 8,000 kilometers across 17 regions of Kazakhstan in 2022 and a 3,000-kilometer trek from Atyrau, Kazakhstan, to Istanbul, Turkey, in 2023.
The 5th World Nomad Games will feature 97 medal events across 21 sports, with about 2,000 participants expected. The event is supported by ALAGEUM ELECTRIC and Halyk Bank, with preparations well underway for a grand celebration of nomadic traditions.
