Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake Strikes Niigata Prefecture in Japan
On Tuesday evening, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook the Japanese prefecture of Niigata, TuraNews.kz reports.
The quake, which occurred at 17:59 local time (11:59 Moscow time), originated near Sado Island within Niigata Prefecture, close to the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, an area that recently experienced a strong earthquake on January 1.
The Main Meteorological Agency of Japan revealed that the earthquake’s epicenter was situated 10 kilometers beneath the water surface. Fortunately, there is no imminent threat of a tsunami. As of now, there have been no reports of casualties or damages resulting from the earthquake. However, the operation of high-speed trains in certain regions has been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
