Magnitude 5.5 earthquake strikes eastern China, injures more than 20, destroys 126 buildings

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 struck eastern China on Sunday morning, injuring more than 20 people and destroying 126 buildings, Turanews.kz reports.

The earthquake struck the Pingyuan County of Dezhou City in Shandong Province at 2:33 AM local time. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake was followed by 52 aftershocks, the largest of which had a magnitude of 4.5.

Local residents were woken up by the earthquake and many of them fled to the streets for safety.

The earthquake destroyed 126 buildings, including homes, businesses, and schools. Nearly 300 rescuers are working to clear the rubble and search for survivors.

More than 20 people have been injured in the earthquake, but there are no reports of any fatalities. The injured are being treated in local hospitals.

The earthquake has caused widespread damage in the Pingyuan County. The government is assessing the damage and providing assistance to those affected by the earthquake.
