Magnitude 4.5 Earthquake Strikes China-Kyrgyzstan Border, No Sensitivity Reported in Kazakhstan

On December 26, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 rattled the border region between China and Kyrgyzstan, as reported by the seismic stations of the Seismological Experimental and Methodological Expedition (SOME), TuraNews.kz reports citing the official website of the SOME.

The seismic event occurred approximately 348 km south of Almaty, and the recorded time was 16:11:29 (Almaty time). The earthquake’s energy class was measured at 9.8. According to the operator on duty at TSO “Almaty,” the magnitude of the earthquake was 4.5.

Despite the significant seismic activity, no sensitivity was reported on the scale МСК-64 within the territory of Kazakhstan. The earthquake’s impact and aftermath are being monitored by relevant authorities as seismic events in this region can have varying effects on neighboring areas.
