French President Emmanuel Macron has addressed the viral video showing his wife, Brigitte Macron, giving him a light slap on the cheek during their official visit to Vietnam.
The incident occurred at the door of the presidential aircraft. In the footage, Brigitte appears to playfully tap the president’s face before the couple calmly disembarks together. The video quickly spread across social media, sparking speculation and conspiracy theories.
The Élysée Palace released a statement calling the moment “just a joke.” Officials explained it as a light-hearted gesture and a personal way for the couple to “relax” before a formal engagement.
According to Libération, the French presidency does not consider the incident newsworthy or worthy of public concern, urging people not to feed into conspiratorial narratives.
