Laptop Containing Paris Olympic Security Plans Vanishes, Sparking Concerns

Concerns arise in Paris as a city hall employee reportedly loses a laptop and USB flash drives containing crucial security plans for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games.

BFM TV reported that the incident unfolded on the evening of February 26. The employee realized the loss while aboard a train at the North Station. His bag, containing the laptop and personal belongings, had been placed on the overhead shelf, only to disappear when he returned to retrieve it.

The missing computer and flash drives reportedly held security strategies devised by the Paris mayor’s office for the Olympic Games scheduled from July 26 to August 11. These plans involved the deployment of approximately 2,000 law enforcement officers, primarily municipal police personnel. Transport police are currently scouring CCTV footage at the station in an attempt to identify the suspected thief.

With the opening ceremony of the Olympics set for July 26, 2024, along the Seine, where national teams are expected to parade on river boats over several kilometers, security measures are paramount. It’s anticipated that 40,000 law enforcement officers will be mobilized to ensure safety during the ceremony.
