According to the Committee, on January 11, police inspector J.T.A. of the Talas City Department of Internal Affairs was apprehended while accepting a bribe of 20,000 soms for halting an investigation into a domestic violence case. He was arrested under Article 343 of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan, “Bribery,” and has been placed in the Talas City Department of Internal Affairs temporary detention facility.
Currently, other investigative actions are underway to pursue criminal liability for additional offenses.
This is the first corruption-related crime uncovered in 2025, following the enactment of laws strengthening punishments for corruption.
On December 31, 2024, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a law, adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on December 25, 2024, amending certain legislative acts in the field of combating corruption.
The law was developed as part of the country’s leadership efforts to eliminate corruption within government bodies.
It aims to create effective measures to prevent corruption and other crimes, as well as to strengthen penalties and impose restrictions on individuals found guilty of such offenses, particularly those seeking to re-enter state or municipal service.
