Kyrgyzstan’s Media Bill Withdrawn for Revision

The bill concerning mass media in Kyrgyzstan, which was undergoing deliberation in the Jogorku Kenesh, has been withdrawn for further review, acting on behalf of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov.

According to Askat Alagozov, the press secretary of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov convened a meeting with leaders from various media outlets in the country to discuss the draft law titled “On the Mass Media” currently being reviewed by the Kyrgyz Parliament.

“After hearing input from media representatives and considering their suggestions, Sadyr Japarov has instructed for revisions to be made to the draft law,” stated the press secretary.

It’s worth noting that Kyrgyzstan’s existing law “On the Mass Media” was enacted on July 2, 1992. The necessity for a new law arises from the outdated nature of the current legislation, which no longer aligns with the evolving needs of modern society. The new bill, “On the Mass Media,” crafted by the presidential administration, was submitted to the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic for assessment in January of this year.
