Kyrgyzstan Plans to Ban Mobile Phones in Educational Institutions

The Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan has proposed a ban on the use of mobile phones in educational institutions. The corresponding resolution has been put up for public discussion.

These measures are aimed at ensuring a peaceful and safe educational process, maintaining the health and social and psychological well-being of students, as well as preventing issues related to mobile devices.

According to the draft rules, all students, staff, and others entering educational institutions must switch their phones to silent mode. Students are required to turn off their mobile phones and leave them in specially designated lockers in the classroom or lecture hall.

Mobile phones will be allowed only in emergencies, when there is a threat to life and health, when receiving messages about the health of close relatives, during breaks, and as part of the curriculum, in accordance with an approved plan.

Charging phones, recording videos, wearing mobile devices around the neck, or keeping them in pockets is prohibited. It is also forbidden to use mobile phones to show videos and photos that promote violence, cruelty, pornography, or harm the reputation of the educational institution, including recording and sharing scenes of violence and hooliganism.

Teachers are also prohibited from using mobile phones during lessons, except when necessary for the lesson process.

Earlier, it was reported that Kyrgyzstan is considering regulating the use of mobile phones in educational institutions and addressing bullying and cyberbullying in schools.
