Kyrgyzstan lifts the ban on export of onions

The ban on the export of onions from Kyrgyzstan has been lifted, Turanews.kz reports citing the Press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the country.

According to the ministry, in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic dated March 3, 2023 No. 111, the temporary restriction on the export of onions was lifted from March 3, 2023.

Earlier it was reported that Kyrgyzstan took restrictive measures to ensure the country’s food security and stabilize market prices for onions after receiving official confirmation from the State Antimonopoly Regulation Service of the Kyrgyz Republic about the overpriced price for onions.

The monthly demand in local market for onion is 6,000 tons and farmers have stocks of 50,000 tons, which covers the 90-day demand as required by the Law on Food Security. As time being Kygyzstan has sufficiency of the onion stocks, the ban has been lifted.
