Kyrgyzstan Imposes Temporary Ban on Wood and Timber Product Exports

In a bid to conserve its forestry resources, Kyrgyzstan has implemented a temporary ban on the export of wood and timber products. The resolution, signed by Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov, prohibits the export of these items from Kyrgyzstan outside the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Effective immediately, the ban covers a range of wood and timber products classified under codes 4401, 4403, and 4407 of the EAEU TN FEA. This measure is slated to last for six months from the date of entry into force of the resolution.

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic has been tasked with informing the Secretariat of the World Trade Organization and the Eurasian Economic Commission about the temporary ban in accordance with established procedures.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan is required to notify the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States within three days of the resolution’s enactment.

To enforce the ban and curb illegal exports, the State Customs Service and the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan are mandated to take necessary measures to prevent the unauthorized export of the specified goods.
