Kyrgyzstan: Fuel Spill Contaminates Kara-Balta River After Tanker Crash

A substantial environmental incident occurred as 20 tons of gasoline leaked into the Kara-Balta River following a traffic accident involving a fuel tanker, TuraNews.kz reports citing the Kabar agency.

According to details provided by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the incident unfolded the previous day on the Bishkek-Osh highway at the 113 km mark, where a DAF fuel tanker collided with a concrete parapet, subsequently overturning.

The 28-year-old driver, identified as Z.D., sustained injuries in the accident and was promptly transported to the district hospital for medical attention.

The spillage of 20 tons of gasoline into the river prompted immediate concerns, leading to the suspension of drinking water supplies to the villages of Taldy-Bulak and Sosnovka. Authorities are currently conducting water tests to assess the impact of the spill on the water quality in the affected areas.
