Kyrgyzstan explains massive power outage in Bishkek

The National Electric Grid of Kyrgyzstan has clarified the cause behind the major power outage that affected several districts of Bishkek and Chuy Region on June 18.

According to the company’s statement, the blackout occurred during planned maintenance work ahead of the winter season. Temporary limitations in certain parts of the power transmission network led to a disruption in electricity supply.

Initial reports indicate the incident was triggered by the shutdown of the 220 kV “Kara-Balta – Main” power line. Power company crews quickly launched efforts to restore electricity, investigate the cause of the outage, and implement preventive measures to avoid further disruptions.

As of now, the country’s energy system is operating normally. A 24-hour monitoring system has been established to ensure a stable and reliable power supply to consumers.

On June 18, multiple areas in Kyrgyzstan’s capital were left without electricity. Residential buildings, government institutions, public service centers, and social infrastructure were all impacted.
