Kyrgyzstan considers banning TikTok

The Ministry of Digital Development of Kyrgyzstan is considering a request from the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy to ban the popular video-sharing app TikTok, Turanews.kz reports.

The Ministry of Culture has argued that TikTok is harmful to children and young people, and that it can lead to addiction, violence, and self-harm. The ministry has also expressed concern about the app’s potential to be used for spreading misinformation and propaganda.

The Ministry of Digital Development has not yet made a decision on whether to ban TikTok. The ministry has said that it is still considering the request from the Ministry of Culture, and that it will take into account all of the relevant factors before making a decision.

If TikTok is banned in Kyrgyzstan, it would be the first country in Central Asia to do so. Other countries that have banned TikTok include India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

The ban on TikTok has been met with mixed reactions in Kyrgyzstan. Some people support the ban, arguing that it is necessary to protect children and young people from the harmful effects of the app. Others oppose the ban, arguing that it is an infringement on freedom of expression.

The Ministry of Digital Development is expected to make a decision on whether to ban TikTok in the coming weeks.
