Kyrgyz wrestler Akzhol Mahmudov won the Asian wrestling championship which began today, April 10 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, Turanews.kz reports.
Mahmudov, who came to the mat from Greco-Roman wrestling at a weight of 77 kilograms, defeated Jeyhun Ovezdurdiev from Turkmenistan 9:0 in the quarterfinals, and Kodai Sakuraba from Japan 9:1 in the semifinals. Akjol Mahmudov was awarded the victory due to the injury of Iranian Amin Yavar Kavianinejad in the final.
24-year-old Akjol Mahmudov will be named Asian champion for the 3rd time. Previously, he won the Asian Championship in 2018 and 2022. He is also a silver medalist of the Olympic Games and a World Champion.
