Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov Highlights China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Project
On Thursday, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov addressed the signing ceremony for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project with a video message. The event, which took place in Beijing, marked a significant agreement between the governments of China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
The President’s press service reported that Japarov congratulated the ceremony’s participants on this historic milestone and highlighted the commencement of the much-anticipated railway construction.
Japarov emphasized the railway’s importance to the “Belt and Road” initiative, expressing his enthusiasm about the railway connecting China with Central Asian countries and opening new transport routes to Europe and the Persian Gulf. He stressed that this project would positively impact trade and economic cooperation.
During his state visit to China in May 2023, Japarov met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The leaders agreed on the urgency of starting the railway’s construction, which Japarov noted was a pivotal outcome of their discussions.
Japarov acknowledged the collaborative efforts of China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan in completing a comprehensive technical and economic study for the project by mid-2023. This cooperation led to the development of an effective implementation mechanism, making it a joint venture of the state railway companies of the three nations.
“This project symbolizes the comprehensive strategic partnership between Kyrgyzstan, China, and Uzbekistan in this new era,” Japarov stated, adding that the construction of this crucial continental bridge in Eurasia would greatly benefit the people of the region.
