Kyrgyz President Reveals Costs for Balykchy-Makmal Railway Project

The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, has announced that approximately four billion soms (over 47 million US dollars) have been invested in the ongoing construction of the Balykchy-Kochkor-Kara-Keche-Makmal railway line. This announcement was made during a ceremony celebrating the 100th anniversary of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu, the national railway operator.

As of now, the railway construction has extended 43 kilometers from Balykchy, with the entirety of the work being carried out by Kyrgyz Temir Zholu.

President Japarov highlighted the strategic importance of this project, emphasizing that it will not only enhance Kyrgyzstan’s infrastructure but also connect with the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway through the Makmal transfer station. This connection is expected to play a crucial role in forming a unified railway network within the country.

The Balykchy-Kochkor-Kara-Keche-Makmal railway project commenced in the spring of 2022 and is being executed using the resources and funding from Kyrgyz Temir Zholu.
