Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economy and Commerce has proposed adding cement to the list of socially important goods, according to Kabar News Agency.
The decision comes amid a sharp price surge during the construction season. Grades M-400 and M-450 are proposed for inclusion in the list.
Government data shows price hikes by local manufacturers:
“Terek-Tash” LLC: from 290 to 315 soms per 50kg bag;
“South Kyrgyz Cement”: 290–310 soms in the north, 240–250 in the south;
Kant Cement Plant keeps prices at 340 soms;
South Construction Materials Complex: 295–300 soms.
In Bishkek’s secondary market, cement now costs 500–550 soms per bag, raising fears of shortages and speculation.
If approved, the resolution will allow authorities to:
- Set temporary price ceilings;
- Monitor trade mark-ups;
- Inspect pricing compliance;
- Apply stabilization measures during peak demand.
The initiative aims to protect consumers and ensure price stability in the construction sector.
