“Kyrgyz Climber Eduard Kubatov Summits Makalu Peak Without Oxygen”

Kyrgyz mountaineer Eduard Kubatov has successfully reached the summit of Makalu Peak in the Himalayas, Nepal, without the use of supplemental oxygen. Kubatov shared his accomplishment on his social media page.

Standing at an altitude of 8,485 meters, Makalu Peak posed a formidable challenge, but Kubatov proudly raised the Kyrgyz flag atop the peak on May 30 at 9:30 am local time. This historic feat marks the first time a Kyrgyz climber has conquered Makalu Peak without oxygen, a significant milestone in the nation’s mountaineering history.

Reflecting on his achievement, Kubatov expressed gratitude for overcoming the harsh conditions of wind, cold, and altitude. “Thanks to the Lord, I achieved victory,” he remarked, dedicating his climb to the people of Kyrgyzstan. He also emphasized the significance of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region, established in 1924, in bolstering the nation’s independence.

Kubatov’s triumph on Makalu comes on the heels of his successful ascent of Lhotse Peak (8,516 meters) on May 20, also accomplished without supplemental oxygen.

The climber had previously met with President Sadyr Japarov on April 11, where he outlined his ambitious goal to conquer the three most challenging peaks—Lhotse, Makalu, and K2—without oxygen in July. President Japarov presented Kubatov with the Kyrgyz flag and extended his best wishes for success in the endeavor.
