Kyrgyz Citizens May Face Entry Restrictions to the U.S., Ministry Seeks Clarification

The Trump administration is reportedly considering new immigration restrictions for citizens of 36 countries, including Kyrgyzstan, The Washington Post has reported.

The list of potentially affected countries also includes Angola, Syria, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Cambodia. The restrictions may involve visa denials or other limitations.

According to the report, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed a document on June 14 instructing American diplomats to notify the respective governments about updated entry criteria. These countries are given 60 days to comply with new U.S. standards.

In response, Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the U.S. Embassy’s consular representative in Bishkek to provide an official explanation. The ministry emphasized that no formal communication on such restrictions has been received so far.

Authorities in Bishkek also expressed concern over the unclear criteria used to determine the inclusion of countries on the list.
