Kazakhstan’s President names new Ambassador to Russia
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed Dauren Abayev as the new Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation. The decree of the head of state was published on the website of the President’s Office, Turanews.kz reports.
Abayev, who was born in 1979, has a long career in government service. He previously served as Minister of Information and Social Development, as well as First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan. He was also a press secretary and adviser to the first president of the republic, Nursultan Nazarbayev, from 2011 to 2016. From January 2022 to January 2023, he served as Minister of Culture and Sports, and since March of this year he has been appointed to the post of Deputy Secretary General of the CIS.
Abayev’s appointment comes at a time of close relations between Kazakhstan and Russia. The two countries are partners in a number of areas, including trade, security, and energy. Abayev’s experience in government and his knowledge of Russia are seen as assets in his new role.
