Kazakhstan’s Population Surpasses 20 Million
As of July 1, 2024, Kazakhstan's population has exceeded 20 million, reaching a total of 20,159,707 people. Of this number, 12,573,637 are urban residents, while 7,586,070 reside in rural areas.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the country’s population increased by 125,867 people over six months, primarily due to natural growth, which accounted for 118,579 people. Additionally, migration contributed 7,289 people to the population increase.
The most significant population growth rates were recorded in Kazakhstan’s major cities. Astana led the way with a 2.93% increase in population, followed by Shymkent with 1.38% growth and Almaty with 1.33% growth.
Experts attribute this population growth to several factors. Large cities are centers of economic and social resources, making them attractive for internal migration as people move in search of better job opportunities and living conditions.
