Kazakhstan’s Hydrometeorological Service Shifts to 24/7 Operation

As of April 8, 2024, Kazakhstan's National Hydrometeorological Service, Kazhydromet, has transitioned to round-the-clock operations to address heightened flood risks.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Republic of Kazakhstan relayed this update via its press service.

Observers, forecasters, and hydrologists across Kazhydromet’s ground-based observation network are now operating on a continuous basis. This expansion includes management, forecasting, and information services within the organization.

The processing and analysis of data from all 15 branches spanning Kazakhstan’s regions are now conducted around the clock. Presently, the Atyrau, Aktobe, Kostanay, West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, Akmola, East Kazakhstan, and Abay regions are classified as flood-prone areas. Consequently, water body observations have intensified, with real-time data being continuously analyzed. All pertinent information is promptly relayed to both state and local authorities.

On April 8 alone, Kazhydromet issued a total of 9 storm warnings and 9 hydrological storm warnings.
