Kazakhstan is preparing to expand the digital transformation of its international road freight operations by transitioning to electronic transport permits with Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan. Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev announced the plan during a government meeting.
He noted that road freight volumes reached 288 million tonnes, a 1.7% increase from last year. Automated weigh stations have boosted budget revenues almost tenfold, and Kazakhstan currently conducts road transport operations with 42 countries.
Last year, Kazakhstan moved paper-based foreign transport permits to a digital format for operations with China and Uzbekistan. Technical integration with Azerbaijan’s digital system is now underway, and similar transitions with Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan are planned next.
The minister emphasized that Kazakhstan will continue digitizing transport documentation to stay competitive. A domestic digital system for freight operations has already been introduced, and its legal framework will take effect next year.
The country is also preparing to join the international e-CMR convention, enabling fully electronic consignment notes for cross-border freight. Integration with neighboring countries via the National Gateway is expected to follow.
