The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Iran held a meeting about the prospects for expanding cooperation in the agro-industrial complex today, Turanews.kz reports citing to Jibek Joly TV.

Seyyed Javad Sadati Nejad announced their country’s readiness to expand the supply of citrus products to the Kazakhstani market, while emphasizing the importance of developing railway and maritime infrastructure. The parties stressed that the transport and logistics sector is one of the key areas of partnership. A special role is given to the North-South corridor. As part of the roadmap, its throughput should be increased to 10 million tons by 2025.

“Iran is an important trade partner of Kazakhstan in the Persian Gulf region. In January-November 2022, the trade turnover between the countries increased by more than 20% and amounted to almost $500 million. At the same time, in order to further increase the volume of mutual trade, Kazakhstan is ready to additionally supply 75 commodity items worth about $250 million to the Iranian market.” Alikhan Smailov said

Kazakhstan also considers Iran as a trade hub which will increase the volume of exports of domestic products to the states of Africa and the Middle East up to $600 million.

In the future, the parties aim to bring the total volume of mutual trade to three billion dollars.
