Kazakhstan has achieved a remarkable milestone in uranium exports, reporting a record-breaking $2.46 billion in processed uranium sales abroad over the first 10 months of 2023. This figure represents a notable 33% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, as revealed by data from the BNS ASPiR of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The impressive growth is particularly evident in the direction of China, where Kazakhstan saw the most substantial dynamics. From January to October, the Republic of Kazakhstan exported $922.7 million worth of uranium to China, marking a remarkable 2.2-fold increase compared to the corresponding period in 2022. The month of October stood out, contributing significantly to the annual total with $258 million—nine times more than in October 2022.
Additionally, there is noteworthy expansion in the Russian direction, with export volumes approaching $1.2 billion over the 10 months, reflecting a robust 72% year-on-year growth. This positive trend in exports to both China and the Russian Federation effectively offset the decline in another vital direction—exports to Canada. Supplying the country with uranium for the first 10 months of the year amounted to $168.5 million, representing a 70% decrease compared to the same period last year.
