Kazakhstan Sees Decline in Prices for Essential Products

From the start of the year until May 21, the rise in prices for essential goods in Kazakhstan slowed to 0.2%. Last week alone, prices decreased by 0.1%, as reported by Primeminister.kz.

The current pricing trends for essential products were discussed during a government meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin.

Nationwide, cabbage prices dropped by 10.4% in a week due to the new harvest from the Turkestan region. First Vice-Minister of Trade and Integration Aizhan Bizhanova noted that retail chains have actively participated in purchasing cabbage, leading to a significant influx in the country’s markets.

Prices for other essential items also declined, including sunflower oil (-0.6%), buckwheat (-0.4%), and C1 category chicken eggs (-1.4%). Additionally, there were slight price decreases for cottage cheese (-0.2%), chicken meat (-0.2%), 2.5% fat kefir (-0.4%), salt (-0.1%), and first-grade wheat flour (-0.1%).

The Ministry of Agriculture provided updates on the vegetable reserves in stabilization funds. Regions have been instructed to begin arranging forward contracts for the autumn harvest to ensure supply during the next off-season.

Deputy Prime Minister Zhumangarin directed the regions to stabilize prices over the next week and to increase the supply of fresh harvests in the necessary quantities.
