Kazakhstan Resumes Grain Exports to Iran and Azerbaijan
Kazakhstan continues to strengthen its position in the international grain markets, with notable increases in export volumes.
According to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), by the end of 2024, the country transported 10.6 million tons of grain, including 8.1 million tons for export.
Key export destinations included Uzbekistan (3.3 million tons), China (1.7 million tons), and Tajikistan, which received 1.2 million tons of grain—20% more than in 2023. Kyrgyzstan also saw a 90% increase, importing 140,000 tons.
The Iranian and Azerbaijani markets have been successfully restored. Grain exports to Iran have doubled, reaching 526,000 tons, while shipments to Azerbaijan increased by 80%, totaling 211,000 tons.
From September to December 2024, Kazakhstan transported 5 million tons of new harvest grain, a 50% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Export volumes surged by 57%, reaching 3.9 million tons. This includes 1.5 million tons to Uzbekistan (up 45%), 633,000 tons to Tajikistan (up 57%), 190,000 tons to Afghanistan (up 51%), and 592,000 tons to China (up 2%).
Exports to Iran skyrocketed by 30 times, totaling 455,000 tons, while shipments to Azerbaijan amounted to 188,000 tons—up from zero in the same period of 2023.
