At a government meeting on Tuesday, Sharlapayev emphasized that the automotive sector is concentrating on increasing the production of small-unit assembly vehicles while striving to maintain the production levels seen last year. He noted that the current production figures reflect a 17% decrease compared to 2023, when 134,000 passenger cars were manufactured.
Sharlapayev highlighted the establishment of joint ventures in the industry and welcomed investors willing to fund the construction of new plants in Kazakhstan.
He mentioned that the construction of a facility for the production of Changan, Haval, and Chery cars, which will rely entirely on small-unit assembly, is nearing completion and will have an annual capacity of 90,000 units.
Additionally, the construction of a plant for KIA cars is currently underway, with an investment of $200 million. A new project for the production of Geely, Exeed, and KAIYI passenger cars, valued at $150 million, has also been initiated.
“The further development of the sector will focus on enhancing localization and producing a more comprehensive component base. This year, we expect to launch the serial production of multimedia systems and car seats in Almaty,” Sharlapayev reported.
