**Kazakhstan Plans to Import Electricity from Tajikistan

Kazakhstan's Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev held talks on energy cooperation with Tajikistan's Deputy Prime Minister Usmonzoda Usmonali and Tajikistan's Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources Manuchehr Safarzoda.

During the conversation, the head of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy noted with satisfaction the Tajik side’s intentions to cooperate in the electric power industry, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.

In 2023, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the supply of electricity generated by the Rogun Hydropower Plant (HPP) from 2023 to 2032. The meeting reaffirmed both sides’ commitment to this collaboration.

Minister Satkaliyev expressed optimism about further technical discussions and commercial agreements for the potential export of electricity from the Rogun HPP to Kazakhstan. He emphasized that these plans depend on technical capabilities and agreed-upon transit modes through Uzbekistan’s power grids.

The parties also agreed to explore the possibility of finalizing agreements on managing unscheduled electricity flows between the energy systems of Central Asian countries by October 15, 2024.
